Morning Discussion

Quick question--what's your favourite unsettling map of the world? If you don't have one yet, you might want to consider the Fool's Cap Map of the World. I'd show you my favourite map but can't find it right now and am running late because I had to slap together a Halo: Reach discussion and chat thread for all your Reach chatting needs.

You can use it to talk about this new 'video game' I understand everyone's talking about, if you like that sort of thing. For complaints about your job, partner, spouse, friend, car, StarCraft II, invert mouse, children, teenagers, parents, pensioners and strafe-jumping, why, look no further than your friendly daily Morning Discussion. I feel I should point out that it's also okay to express positive opinions in MD, just in case you hadn't realised yet.

It has changed. Now you must completely unlock x of those civic thingys (five maybe?) which then unlocks a special wonder that wins you the cultural victory. You buy civics with culture.

          More:

          I'm On A Boat! - Embark a Unit.

Seriously?!? - Have another Civ beat you to completing a Wonder 10 times.

Three Musketeers - Kill a unit with a French Musketeer when two other Musketeers are providing flanking bonuses.

Kamikaze Attack - Kill an enemy unit attacking with a Japanese unit with just 1 HP remaining.

Ruler Of The Seas - As Elizabeth, sink and destroy 357 enemy naval units, across any number of playthroughs.

He Threw A Car At My Head! - Have any city ransomed by Barbarians.

I think I'm missing a reference in that last one though. :)

Not allow any cancellations / refunds / returns once the keys are out because that is the "product" people are paying for, essentially. They could easily do that but perhaps they aren't allowed to, you'd think they'd be fine with getting people to pay them the money and then use steam's bandwidth to download it all.

Anyway, doesn't bother me because everyone here will still be playing the damn game long before I will be.

That's a lot more administrative overhead than just holding on to them until it's out though. Especially for what amounts to getting your game a few hours later.

It would have been fun to pass the time with, but I don't really need it to help me make the decision on buying the game or not.

And I would suspect it had just made the wait harder. A Civ demo with a hard turn limit or similar is just a gigantic cock tease anyway. So I don't really mind.

The only benefit of a demo I can think of is for civ newbies who want to get a tutorial out of the way first and jump into a full game on release day.

Civ players that have only played revolutions in the past are in for a suprise. Which may be why they are waiting until release day to put out a demo. Won't scare the revolution players off :)

In general, it's somewhat evenly matched, looks to be approximately equal tech and military size, although the assaulting army has more units. War in particular has changed enough between Civ 5 and prior civs that I can't say that for certain though.
