New Razor Mouse
by Steve Gibson, May 16, 2000 1:39am PDTRazor announced the new design for their high performance gamers mouse at E3 this year. Guess what, it looks like another wacky design. Someone thump those guys in the head and tell them to make a halfway normal design while they are at it.

#17, now *that's* an old school mousepad. i knew i shouldn't have thrown that sparc 5 away.
anyway, it's not as bad as everyone thinks. take a look at the other mouse they had at the booth:

that one looks fairly normal. i guess the hair stylist had the day off when they came up with that one.
also one question: how does the razer accomplish the greater precision thing? is it just a high sampling rate? or is it something else? (something... sinister)

If you just go on the look without perspective, though, that thing looks worse than the MS Explorer for height. The height on the Explorer is the reason I still use Mouseman Wheels. I like a lot of buttons and a wheel, unlike many people here. I couldn't have a mouse without a wheel for just general Windows use, although I rarely use it in game.
Also, if you are going to do colors, please don't go i-Mac on us. Blacks, greys, silvers, maybe even some red or blue trim (without overdoing it like these shots).

Razer mouse is for diehard Microsoft-haters who don't mind paying $100 for a mouse and giving up 20% of their frags to make their point.
Gracias!

I got hooked on my config which uses mmb for backwards before wheels came in and now there's only a few mice out there which I can use. (Logitech gaming mouse wins, but sometimes I think it's a little bit too small.)
Of course, the wheel is very useful in Windows so I have two mice plugged in to my PC, one for Windows (Logitech MouseMan+) and one for Games.
That's another thing which Microsoft and probably the other guys apart from Logitech really need to improve: support for completely independent configuration of multiple mice -- from buttons to movement speed and acceleration, or lack of. Logitech's drivers simply blow MS away in this respect, although it's probably not important for most people with just one mouse.
PS, I bought an MS Intellieye thing with the Rudolf Glow In The Dark Butt, but while it looks really cool, the resolution on it, at least on any surface I've tried, was so bad that to get from one side of the desktop to the other you have to crank it right to the top speed, but once you do that the mouse cursor moves in steps/jumps of about 5-pixels, which is totally useless for aiming in games and makes anything you try to draw in Photoshop have this snap-to-grid effect. Some people have reported the same, but others have said it works fine for them... YMMV, but IMO it's a POS of a mouse. :-)

Instead, we get a pregnant i-Mac puck.
Sigh.
who the hell cares about the looks, as long as its fast and ergonomic?
