Indie developer Mode 7 is further sweetening the deal on pre-orders for its top-down, simultaneous turn-based tactical shooter Frozen Synapse with a 25% discount.

Frozen Synapse, as the recent trailer below shows, is top-down, turn-based tactical game placing you in control of a small squad in stylised arenas. Unconventionally, both players' turns take place simultaneously so each must anticipate the other's actions.

$19.49 will score you two copies of the game--one for a friend--as well as instant beta access for both if you enter the voucher code "INDIEPOWER" when pre-ordering from Mode 7. Alternatively, you can splash out $26.24 with the code to also get your name in the credits, your picture in the game, soundtrack downloads and more.

Mode 7 Games is currently targeting a release in "early 2011" on PC and Mac.

The graphics style can be summed up in one word, lazy. Developers can jump off the simpled colored silhouette train now. It was never cool and screams cheap.

Well, chances are that it wouldn't cost 10$ per copy if the graphics were significantly more complex.

I disagree. I think it looks good an everything being photorealistic is obnoxious. It's just an art style.

It's grown on me quite a bit. Feels like you're directing your squad from some secret Cold War command center.

I actually prefer gameplay over grafics, so this might suit me. You could call the grafics of Darwinia "lazy" as well, but they sufficed to present the game.

Not a valid argument, he doesn't need to be a cook to tell if food tastes bad.

McDonalds is lazy for making burgers in their $10 meal. They should have the same steak from the $60 meal.

I personally don't like the art style in this game but generally laziness doesn't have to be a bad thing. I like good, not expensive.
