Evening Reading

By Brian Leahy, Sep 08, 2010 5:00pm PDT Similar to StarCraft II, I've begun publishing multiplayer guides for Halo: Reach, which comes out next week. Are these things you enjoy reading? It's a bit selective as it requires a good amount of proficiency at a game to be able to write a guide, but it's definitely something the Shacknews team can look into producing for new games moving forward... if we happen to be skilled at them.

What other games would you like to see guides written for? Gaming News o'the Day

  • I am kinda down and was thinking about retail therapy. Been a while since I bought any hardware. For some reason the new DS and the Android expected are my two main interests. So that leaves my PC as target. I only have 2 gigs of DDR2 800 with a e8400 dual core at stock 3ghz. The mobo doesnt support ddr3. Should I upgrade the mobo AND get 4 gigs of ddr3 or would 4g of ddr2 be about the same improvement?

The only other component I could upgrade would be getting a SSD drive. Since I run Win764 4 gigs ram and a ssd should give me some zip. I just dont know if I should do it on a P35 775 socket mobo.

  • A slapdash Amnesia quick save method.

Some of you might have realized this as it's not exactly a secret, but if you're having trouble at a certain part, or if you want to save lantern oil while you're looking around, you can use the following as a pseudo quick save:
    1. Pause the game and choose Save and Exit.
    2. At the main menu, choose Continue and muck around, do whatever it is you need to do.
    3. When you've figured out what you need to do, choose Exit, then Continue. You'll resume at the point at which you selected Save and Exit.

Very convenient if you've wasted most of your lantern oil trying to figure out how to escape a room, solve a puzzle, etc.
