by Xav de Matos, Sep 08, 2010 5:00am PDTYesterday, NHL 11 arrived from Amazon. While I spent the majority of my day in bed trying not to be sick, I toyed with some of the game's newest features. Specifically, I spent time with the full version of EA's Hockey Ultimate Team.
If you had fun with it in the demo, be aware that the system isn't as "kind" in the real version. In the demo it was pretty standard to have guys like Chara and Malkin find their way to your team, in the full version you're mostly looking at third liners and a ton of mid-tier rookies.
Also, the fact that players can purchase new cards with real money on the Xbox 360 or PS3 has the potential to break the system. We'll have to see how balance shifts over time.

Played a few MP games yesterday and I really enjoy it. Would like to see the player base get a little bigger as there doens't seem to be many 4v4 matches. Biggest one of all players I was in was a 2v2 and was pretty spectacular until everyone dropped.
So while the MP is pretty neat and the gameplay is equally fun . . . .holy GOD is the Singleplayer painful! Those cutscenes make me want to kill myself. Nitrium in all his awesomness Gifted me the CoH bundle and that gameplay / cutscenes just seems so more polished.
The best way to explain it would be CoH and Supreme Commander rolled into one. If you're a war gaming / strategy fan I suggest you take a look. Also has support for touch screens.

This pisses me off so much. I think it demonstrates a total lack of understanding of the issue, and why it is important to some PC gamers.
For some, adjusting the FOV allows for playing without feeling motion sick. For others it is a personal preference, but it is important to many. I could offer some pseudo-technical reasoning for why the FOV should be different on a console vs PC, but I don't really think it's necessary. Your customers demand it, you should offer it.
Why is it so hard for developers to understand that this is a key issue/feature on the PC that should be addressed with every release? Adjustable resolution, check, mouse input, check, adjustable FOV, CHECK!

Yes! Will have to wait for a couple more reviews but it looks like NHLXX will stay my most played console game for the 4th year in a row. There is absolutely nothing better in gaming than tackling the season mode with 1-3 friends as your team mates. As long as they keep on improving the series, they have my money every year, no matter how small the improvements are.

I currently have a GTX 260, and the girlfriend has 5770.
What I am trying to figure out if picking up $250 460 is the way to go and then deciding if the GTX should go to the gf to replace her 5770 or if the 5770 is better and I throw out the GTX.
If I could find a reasonable CPU upgrade, I would consider that but I am considering a complete replacement in 6 months.
