Evening Reading: Labor Day Edition
by Alice O'Connor, Sep 06, 2010 5:00pm PDTIt's been a quiet Labor [sic] Day here at Shacknews as the video games industry has mostly been out in the garden with a beer in one hand and a hotdog in the other, not to mention I've been working by myself. Still, I hope that whoever and wherever you are, you have come to appreciate the labouring classes a little bit more than you did before.
Me, I've been working hard all labour day so nobody appreciates long, hard slog better than me. Crumbs, what a gruelling day! I think I'll unwind by playing the PC version of Chime, which unlocked on Steam while I was writing this post. I already have the Xbox 360 edition but this'll make a fine addition to my netbook for travel fun.
Kinect for Xbox One coming to PC
Xbox One does not provide any built-in DVR capabilities
Xbox One increases friends lists to 1,000
Xbox One achievements dynamic, not limited to single games

so I started playing about 2 weeks ago, after quitting about 5 years ago. got to lvl 60 stupidfast, now at lvl 70 and taking things slow.
holy shit, the average player is a fucking retard. I guess that's the result of making everything so easy, but wow. I was remembering the days of UBRS with sap, sheep, MT and MA, and wiping for good reasons. it seems all people know how to do is tank and spank now.
I play a lock, and always soulstone the healer. friends aside, I have seen dozens of healers use their soulstones in the middle of an overwhelming, inevitable wipe, only to die 2 seconds later. when i ask why they didn't want to use it, and res everyone afterwards, I get "I didn't think of that"
seriously? you're lvl 70+ and you've never learned to pull properly(tank), keep aggro down(dps/heal), or avoid wipes(healer)?
these people are getting rewarded with godly gear, too.
it's impossible to find groups for BC heroics. I have never finished one. it's always a wipe on the first or second pull. repeatedly. please tell me this improves at 80.

People are still bad at the game and majority of the worst players stay at the lower end of content. Thus when you're just starting out thats almost all you come across because the better players have long since stopped doing that stuff (and have the means to just skip it on alts).
As you progress (read: get geared) and start doing the higher end content, even simple things like Heroic 5 Mans, VoA, and weekly raids you'll find competency slowly starts to rise. Starting fresh at this late stage it's unlikely you'll see the late-game content but if you do get that far it's MUCH MUCH better.
Personally I haven't had to group with a bad set of people in a very long time. I have an extensive friends list (that I sync across all 4 of my 80's) consisting of solid players and even when we do "pug" things we generally have a good portion of slots filled with quality players; sometimes they're alts with no gear but that really doesn't matter all that much for the vast majority of content if you have good people.
