Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Remade for PlayStation 3

Oddworld Inhabitants' Xbox exclusive Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is being revamped for release on PlayStation 3 next year by Gravity Crash developer Just Add Water.

The remake of the celebrated bounty hunting title will have, JAW says, "stunning 720p visuals; much more detail in the characters; normal mapping and self-shadowing; re-mastered dialogue, support for PlayStation Move; and additional bonus material still to be revealed," while remaining "faithful to the original moolah-chasing epic."

Left, the upcoming PS3 revamp. Right, the 2005 original.

In 2009, Oddworld Inhabitants promised that Stranger's Wrath and its fellow Xbox exclusive Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee would be ported to PC in a series collection dubbed the 'Oddbox.' Oddworld affirmed in April 2010 that the pair would see release on Steam this year, though a planned new Oddworld title had been put "on the shelf."

The PlayStation 3 remake of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath will be released for download via the PlayStation Network "next Easter," which will fall in late April 2011.

I loved Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, this is awesome news.

So here is the question, is the PC version not a remake as well or is it strictly a port with nothing added and the PS3 version is the only one that is adding the new trimmings?

Then your wish ...may be someday fulfilled. Look for the Oddworld forums and you'll find information on the Oddbox: a compilation of all four Oddworld games ported to PC. Available at first on Steam. However, the bad news is that they've been saying its coming soon since the end of last year and they're still saying its coming soon.

Apparently, the hard part was porting Stranger, so getting it to work with DirectX is proving harder than they anticipated. This is why I avoided the Oddworld 2game set already on Steam because I despise buying a game, then winding up REbuying the same game as part of some cheap package.

Plus, the 3d Oddworlds are what I wanted anyway. The bonus is they are taking the time to add in Steam achievements while they're doing the ports and Steam achievements are not a feature of the currently available Oddworld titles on Steam.
