Naval RTS-Tower Defense Hybrid 'OilRush' Announced
by Alice O'Connor, Sep 02, 2010 6:45am PDTVideo game engine creator Unigine Corp. has announced a foray into game development with OilRush, a naval hyrid of real-time strategy and tower defense genres.
OilRush is set in a post-apocalyptic flooded world where oil is scarce and precious, meaning that naturally you'll roll out well-oiled mechanical armed forces to seize it all for yourself. Unigine explains players will "control construction and upgrading of production platforms as well as their defence forces, and send battle groups of naval and air units to capture enemy's platforms and oil rigs."
LAN and online multiplayer be on offer, as will a mod SDK.
The downloadable game is built upon Unigine's own eponymous engine, which you can see shown off in its benchmark test 'Heaven'. PC and Linux editions are scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2010, with a PlayStation 3 release also in the works.
