Morning Discussion
The way the cycle usually works is that my passion is re-ignited by a game with really solid mechanics or a multiplayer mode worth getting properly stuck into but for now, I'm drifting away a little. I think this is good, though. After some time spent deep in other mediums and doing other things, I come back reminded of what makes video games so unique and promising to me. Perhaps I'll say more on that when I have time to spare.

I'm just not that eager, odds are I probably won't even update it when it's officially out right away. I don't use my phone all that much I suppose. I don't like gaming on the iphone, touch based gaming isn't for me, and while some of the other functions are definitely great, I'm not a power user by any means.

My theory is that Apple is just not equipped to be a mass market popular electronics company yet, and so they're going through some growing pains.
The Macintosh has always been a niche product (albeit, they're selling an increasing number of them) and the iPod was very simple compared to the iPhone. You're probably right in that they took the attitude that people who have a 3G just need to upgrade, but they're finding out the hard way that you can't take that stance with the iPhone. They had their little cult of Mac users who were eager to upgrade every three years because otherwise you start getting cut off from stuff - now they're discovering you can't pull that with a mass market phone. Not with Android out there anyway.
Really it was probably that iOS 4 has to be out in July no matter what and they just didn't dare delay it for the 3G issues.
