Apple's 'Game Center' App Launching Next Week, New iPod Touch Models Inbound

Apple announced the impending arrival of its social Game Center App at its corporate Keynote presentation yesterday. The App was first announced back in April of this year.

Not to be confused with GameFly's own GameCenter App, Apple's Game Center will be available next week for most Apple devices in conjunction with the iOS 4.1 roll-out, but won't be ready for the iPad until the release of iOS 4.2 in November.

According to Apple's Steve Jobs, the gaming application is multiplayer-focused, including matchmaking and leaderboards across multiple games, in addition to the expected ability to play with friends. (via Joystiq)

In the same keynote, Jobs revealed a new iPod Touch device with features pulled directly from the recent iPhone upgrade. The new Touch sports an updated screen with Retina Display, 3-axis gyroscope and Apple's A4 chip. The device, which will be available next week, will also feature a front-facing camera.

The new iPod Touch models will be available in an 8GB model for $229, a 32 GB model for $299 and a 64GB model for $399.

Open Feint is just a bunch of leaderboards, right? This Game Center is suppose to be like the XBox Live of Apple. Sort of.

Kinda the other way around... OpenFeint has far more features than GameCenter, and will continue that trend.

Also, GameCenter won't be on Android
