StarCraft 2 Sells 3 Million Copies in First Month
by Alice O'Connor, Sep 01, 2010 5:43am PDTAfter selling one million copies on launch day, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty went on to sell over three million copies worldwide in the first month of sale, Blizzard has revealed.
"We appreciate all the enthusiasm that players around the world have shown for StarCraft II," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. "It was important to us to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible, balanced, and fun, and it's been gratifying to see how strongly the global community has already embraced the game."
Half of the three million sales were made in StarCraft II's first 48 hours of sale alone, which Blizzard says set "the record for fastest-selling strategy game of all time."
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was released for PC and Mac on July 27. The other two instalments of Blizzard's StarCraft II trilogy, the Zerg-focused 'Heart of the Swarm' and Protoss-centric 'Legacy of the Void,' will follow further down the line.

We really have people thinking this sort of stuff making games for us.
Honestly though, I'm quite disappointed in SC2... I said I was going to be before it came out and I still am. This game shouldn't have taken millions of dollars to make and 7 years. The campaign was pretty cool, but otherwise the gameplay is repetitive and mundane. I was playing coop the other night and no one could understand why I didn't want to rush the computers... like people normally do in pvp games.
All the gameplay basically comes down to is resource harassment and figuring out how to be the biggest douche during the first five minutes of the game. Blizzard replicated that perfectly.
This just goes to show you how hard up PC gamers are for entertainment. They don't even know what a really good game is anymore. While I'll admit SC2 is definitely a blast from the past, and still better then a lot of things that came out in the last three years, it's not all that amazing.
