Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta Postponed
by Xav de Matos, Aug 31, 2010 7:20am PDTAlthough Square Enix was on pace to open the flood gates for users to participate in an open beta for its upcoming MMO today, the company has announced the test has been put on hold.
On its official site, Square Enix revealed the Final Fantasy XIV open beta would be postponed until a later, undisclosed date. According to the publisher, the open beta delay is due to "a confirmation of critical bugs."
Along with the postponement of the beta itself, Square Enix will hold off on allowing users to register for the open beta test. Shacknews has contacted Square Enix to find out if a time frame has been estimated for the new open beta start date.

That and 80% of people will take like a week to download using the lanucher due to the fact it uploads around 3-5 times as fast as it allows you to download but some seem to be lucky and have good download speeds.
Best bet for people trying to download is to open the patch folder and open it as a torrent file you will get it ahell of alot faster and should they patch it you won't get stoped and forced to restart all over again.
Most games these days have a open beta for advertisement purposes only, and then end up as a pile of horror, that could have been avoided.
Sure, they also use it to test the server infrastructure under load, but most times the beta isn't used to fix things.

Open beta has really become more of a "open demo" in recent years.
