Morning Discussion

Last night, Mad Men took the Emmy for "Outstanding Drama Series." As a personal fan of the show since it began, I'm happy that Don Draper and Co. continue to get the critical accolades they deserve.

There's something about playing with history or stories told within events, that's really fascinating. Mad Men does this really well as each season has featured important moments in American history.

For gaming, we have a lot of "What If" scenarios. BioShock Infinite, for example, features this concept. The core of the game's setting focuses on an era of booming American exceptionalism. Where the extraordinary circumstances come from are the ideas of bringing things to a level never before seen: "What would happen if things went too far? What would happen if the industry boom and the idea of exceptionalism saw a significant increase in a very short span of time?"

It's certainly more interesting than Pac-Man's back-story but we'll have to see if it works out in the end. What era would you like to see represented in games more often?
