The 'tunnel shooter' space combat in BioWare's MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic is given its grand unveiling in a new trailer released to celebrate Gamescom 2010.

Spaceships will also serve as player housing of sorts, letting you and your chums stroll around your vessel, though BioWare has yet to reveal exactly how it will all work.

Currently in testing, Star Wars: The Old Republic is due out on PC in 2011.

man this game looks so fun. it looks like it will be infinitely less slow and boring compared to star trek online

That's really not saying much. Sadly, hello kitty online is infinitely less boring and slow compared to STO.

star trek TNG onward (at least to me) has always been about naval battles in space, which are very different in scope and tactics

star wars has also been about small space ship to ship fighting from space carriers, with destroyers mixing it up as well

Was gonna say...modern naval warfare is all about carriers and the fighters they launch. I guess the whole Trek take on space naval warfare is more like the wooden ship era.

I've often wondered why nobody's bothered to make a submarine-equivalent thing for space...I suppose it'd be something like cloaking, but that isn't quite enough like a sub for me.
