Report: APB Developer Enters Bankruptcy
by Brian Leahy, Aug 17, 2010 12:30pm PDTDevelop is reporting that APB and Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds is "on the brink of closure" and that operations have been handed off to an administration firm that will attempt to secure further investment to save the studio.
If further investment cannot be secured, it is likely that the independent developer will close and that APB will be its final game. It is unclear what will happen to the game's servers and operation if this were to occur.
This follows last week's rumors that the studio had scrapped the recently revealed Project: MyWorld and was looking to sell off APB. The cancellation of Project: MyWorld and the scrapping of the project's team was confirmed last week.
Though it could not confirm numbers, Develop reports that as many as 170 staffers have been let go, with around 50 remaining on during the administration period by the Begbies Traynor Group.

As for crackdown it was a real poor GTA clone with super jumps boring boss fights and fairly lacking any thing to do.

This game is very not good. I wanted to play it just for the character customization, but guess what every thing is over priced so as a newbie you have no choice but to play the fucking game.
O hgod the game is so bad. There is enough words online discussing how bad it is so I will spare you my minor diatribe. The real problem comes from the fact that as a level 4 character I was getting teamed up against level 194-205 players CONSISTENTLY. I never once played anyone near my level.
They really, really fucked up this game. It is a shame seeing people lose their job but I am sure this will look good on a resume at least. These people aren't generally poor who develop games but damn, this game sucked hard.

The Star Wars source material does not lend itself to, and is not suited for, an MMO. Bioware needs to fold up TOR, salvage what assets they can, and move it into KOTOR 3.
THQ/Vigil do not have the funding or the time to implement the Warhammer 40K universe properly nor do I believe that the tech is ready for it. THQ needs to stop funding the WH40K MMO and reallocate that money to other projects.

I know games are requiring more and more people to develop but what other games were they developing?

I was considering purchasing more time down the road when they added more action zones but that has gone right out the window.

I'm sorry to see this happen to a talented development house, but this push to make everything into an mmo needs to stop. Hopefully the guys at RTW land on their feet, wherever they end up.
