Windows Phone 7 Launch Games and Live Features Unveiled

2
At GamesCom 2010, Microsoft revealed its plans for its newest "major gaming platform." With details of Windows Phone 7 rather scarce since it was first revealed in February, Microsoft uncovered its strategy -- including Xbox Live functionality and launch software.

Its mobile OS, which will launch "this holiday season," appears to feature most functions promised during the platform's original announcement. Users will have access to familiar Xbox Live features, such as Gamerscore and Achievements, Avatars, messaging, friends list and turn-based multiplayer.

Windows Phone 7's lineup of software also feels familiar, featuring multiple titles already available on Apple's iOS and Android-based phones. Microsoft is also cracking open its own first-party catalog of franchises to bring to the mobile platform, including a tower-defense title in the Crackdown universe and a mobile version of Xbox Live's Halo Waypoint.

Engadget recently went hands-on with the new OS and has a handful of videos of the experience. A full listing upcoming titles for the platform are available after the break.

You'd expect that it's possible to have Achievements in phone games that feed back to your Gamerscore. But, you know none of those ports listed will take the time to do that. Oddly, this is the least you'd expect them to do, but they really need to do more to have a better platform.

Not sure what you mean. If you are logged in with your Live ID and you get achievements, they do count towards your score.
