And then there is all that modding they'll miss out on....

I am joe-blow game developer. I release a buggy ass, half assed half finished product, that is half way fieshed out and rely on the modding community to bail out my crappily programmed game. Mods are cool for sure, but if you make the game high quality, add some good DLC, then mods are less of a factor .
And why do modders get nothing in return. They extend the shelf life of an unfinished product and get no pay. But then alot of mods do not run correctly, like the original game, and never leave the "BETA" stage. Yep those console gamers are missing out on some great stuff.....Maybe if cheap-o PC gamer Joe would pay for the mods and alittle more for the games(or how about pay for the games to begin with ; p ) Then we could all get better products and cool-ass mods that make to a polished final state.
I see. Buy a game. Finish game. Then get free mods for said game. Free because the modders get no pay. Then wonder why the developement community jumps ship and goes to the pay to play console community.
PC gamers think, hey I invested a ton of cash into my rig so I deserve some free stuff. Well we don't deserve free stuff. We choose to buy the parts .
And then you should have to pay to play. That is how companies make money to provide a better product. PC gamers just do not get this point. Just because you blow all your cash on hardware does not entitle you to cheaper or free content. Either buy some cheaper stuff or do not play. If the PC hardware and developement community followed the standardized console type system, games would be alittle more, but delivered as promised. They would run out of the box. That is priceless when you want to jump into a new game.
A console gamer "knows" if you want a totally stable platform with games that run each and everytime, without tons of patches and driver updates, then you have to pay. And it is worth it.
So the mod communtiy does great stuff, but they should be compensated also. And why can't we get mods on console games? Be cause nobody has figured how to make it safe and profitable yet.
