NHL 11 Demo Coming August 17

Lace up those skates, folks, because a demo for NHL 11 is on the way.

According to Operation Sports, the news was revealed in a developer chat yesterday. The demo is set to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 on August 17 in North American and August 18 in Europe.

The demo is said to include the "Battle for The Cup" mode, which will allow players to pit Chicago against Philadelphia in a 3rd Period, Game 7 situation.

A preview of the "Hockey Ultimate Team" mode (HUT) will also be included with a starter pack of cards, allowing players to play offline tournaments (in 3rd period situations) with the chance to win card unlocks for the full version of NHL 11.

Players can walk away with two packs of cards by by inviting a friend to play the demo, and by either playing the demo or winning the HUT tournament in the demo; however, cards will not unlock for both. The cards will unlock in NHL 11 when the game launches.

The Coolest Game on Earth hits Xbox 360 and PS3 when NHL 11 lands in stores on September 7.

I loved the developer videos where they were like "We know there are exploits in the previous versions of the game, and instead of fixing them, you'll have to buy the new version". That's what really annoys me about the NHL series. Instead of fixing shit they just release new skews.

Fuck you EA. Tired of this. Tired of your overpriced shit that you try to farm to me every year. I love hockey. I hate you own the license. You're in it for the money, I get it, but I'm not supporting you, ever.

The worst were the PC versions. Great between NHL94 and 2001, but pretty much the same game, with the same graphics, from 2002 to 2008. Yet the back of the box always showed screens from the much better x360 and ps3 versions. They're starting to go that way with the console ones too, now. I believe it's still the same basic game, with a few little additions, since NHL 08.

Yeah, it's a shame. I liked the developer videos as well but this year they have no competition. The goalie AI really needs overhaul but that won't be fixed until next year or the year after.

I think the team is excited about video game hockey but the EA brass don't care. There is talk about the NHL series budget being small but EA does the same thing with Madden every year. Oh well check this out to reminisce about the old days: http://www.thepensblog.com/pensblog/september-2009/the-history-of-hockey-video-games.html
