Weekend Discussion

There were three crying babies on my flight home from Vancouver. Three. It's as though they met beforehand to discuss how they could send the aircraft into a tailspin of chaos, and upon the execution of an elaborate signal non-diaper wearers could not sense, the plan was put into motion. I'm pretty sure it was an act of terrorism.

I actually didn't care all that much. Headphones and the latest episode of Weekend Confirmed kept me busy, but people kept looking back at each of the parents with this expression of, "Really, you haven't figured out to make an infant stop crying? You are a failure as a parent and human-being." It's not a dog. It's a person.

One guy kept looking back at a crying baby and then at me, like we were going to form some kind of bond over our dislike for the situation. At one point I mouthed the word, "What?" and he replied in a hushed tone, "Stupid babies are giving me a headache." I shook my head and said, "Maybe you should go outside for some fresh air." We were probably at 35,000 feet at that point. He stopped talking to me after that.

  • Alice O'Connor: I was hoping for a video games-free weekend of reading but alas, I must play Disciples III: Renaissance.
  • Brian Leahy: I could lie and say I'll be playing anything other than StarCraft 2 this weekend, but I won't. It's StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. I got put in Diamond league and I'm hoping to stay there. It's been tough already.
  • Garnett Lee: Oh, I think you know Trebek. I'll be deep into Madden NFL 11 in preparation for the review, as well as getting back to Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty and playing some R.U.S.E. but I've also set my mind to play a wild card. What that is, I'm not sure yet.
  • Jeff Mattas: [Zombies ate his homework... and then his brains.]
  • Xav de Matos: I've been playing StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty against the A.I. Although I'm still terrible, I'm not getting destroyed by the computer anymore. On Medium, that is. My Vancouver trip cut into my time with the Xbox Live Arcade's Castlevania: Harmony of Despair; I'll sink some time into that before heading to New York on Wednesday.

Xav de Matos was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.
