Report: New Borderlands DLC Information Buried in Recent Patch

15
Information about future Borderlands DLC might have been hidden in the recent Steam patch for Borderlands, according to a user on the Gearbox forums (via Giantbomb).

The data-mined revolves around Claptraps--specifically a Ninja Claptrap designed to keep the heroes of Borderlands from accessing the Vault--including new quests, locations, and enemies. Back in October, Shacknews interviewed Gearbox's Mikey Neumann, who promised we would be seeing more of the "Ninja Assassin Claptrap" seen after the end credits of Borderlands.

As the amount of data tips this onto the side of probable, I won't detail all of the information found as it likely contains spoilers, but curious readers can find all of the information in the forum post.

Gearbox president Randy Pitchford cautions that the information is misleading and should not be taken at face value. In a statement to IGN, he gives some context to the leak:

There are a few things there, but I think it's like reading a draft of a script for a movie that hasn't even been announced yet, let alone launched - yeah you might learn something, but it's not the real thing and it could just drive you crazy thinking about it.

A 2K representative has told Shacknews the company will be announcing new Borderlands content soon, but no additional information at this time.

Great game ruined by craptastic multiplayer using gamespy. Re-release it using steam for matchmaking.

If you didn't have friends to play with, you definitely missed out.

Oh sweet jesus I couldn't agree more. A game built with COOP in mind shouldn't punish gamers for wanting to play coop. Take a page out of the L4D book, chumps!

It really wasn't THAT bad, I had no issues at least playing it recently. Maybe it was worse on release?

It was definitely worse on release. I've had a lot less issues with playing it multiplayer since the 1.3 patch, but that was months after release. For a game I bought specifically to play multiplayer because of the features they advertised, I was extremely disappointed.

Agreed. The style of the game and the game play were both great, but it was too easy and getting multiplayer working was ridiculous. One of my friends couldn't even join us for the first week due to CTDs until I realized that you had to have internet explorer installed for the game to work (WTF?!?!). Ridiculous. Still, we had a great time until we got to level 20 or so and then we just stomped through every encounter pretty much unscathed.

Really, steamworks multiplayer support should just be mandatory at this point.

Its really not that bad. Its technically got the gamespy logo stamped on it, but its nowhere near as awful is the real thing. I rarely had problems creating games with friends.

I don't think I ever had problems, even during launch.

Then you were the lucky ones. Even with an open network, hell, even just over a freaking LAN it wouldn't work right all the time for my roommates and I. We were always having problems.
Oh, A can see B and C but can't connect to C, C CAN join A, but not see B, and B can see both but can't join either.
That was pretty normal until the 1.3 patch which made it better, but it still screwed up often.

They fixed the ports thing a while ago.
