Morning Discussion

Hallo there, Internet. I'm upsetting the Morning Discussion rota today as Xav is jetting off to exotic space this morning and is busy packing his space-shoes. Don't worry, he'll be returning the favour by filling in my TPS reports for the next week or two.

I've recently returned to Team Fortress 2 after yonks away--enjoying the Brit-tastic Rock, Paper, Shotgun TF2 server--and I must say it's delightful to see every class updated. While I'm still not entirely certain what the plethora of guns, swords, knives, axes and chocolate bars do, they certainly shake it all up.

Rivalries are a lot easier to start when most players are unique, too. That opposing demoman with the Chargin' Targe and Eyelander might be zipping past my stickybombs, forcing me to recognise them and treat them differently. Lovely.

Dawn of War 2 got a pretty hefty patch

    http://community.dawnofwar2.com/forums/topic/42098

Faster vehicle turning, big big things are less scary, bullet (I believe) are more accurate and FFA has been added. The Shack Dawn of War crew needs to maybe put a match or three into this, eh?

I just talked to a dude who flipped out about that patch and wants to switch to SC2 because of it. There always seem to be dramas about what Relic do to their games.

Did he say what the drama is? I mean I see there are changes, but not nerdsperger level changes

Probably either the Avatar or Unclean nerfs since they seem to be the biggest strategy breaking ones. Also what was the Building thing were people quickly loading/unloading units from buildings to abuse the momentary invincibility?

The Avatar and Unclean are so late game tho! And yeah, the invincibility thing does seem abusable.

The building thing was a delay in units being garrisoned. They would pause in front of the building and then while entering or exiting were pretty much invinicible to incoming fire or nades.

AI has been broken, they no longer cap flags they just sit on them. And the game now crashes on occasion during last stand, yay.

I still haven't played anything other than SM (gimme some god damned Tau already, Relic!) but they seem nasty enough in MP. Cultists are surprisingly powerful in melee for the base starting unit, and they can detonate themselves for pretty hefty damage.

God damn, they fucked Terminators over. Shared cooldown timer? Lightning claws reduce health by 300/unit? Ow.

Yeah, I was surprised by that, but I don't really use them tbh

Being able to drop both types was one of my favorite parts about them. Let's be honest, the Venerable Dread and the Avatar (though maybe not the Avatar any more) were vastly superior to an infantry unit...except that I could potentially have two Termie squads. I doubt I'll ever bother with Assault Termies now; the Cyclone Missile Launcher is too powerful and the Lightning Claw health degrade is too large a drawback given you can't retreat Termies.

Also I really miss LAN parties, that's where I used to learn to play (anything other than FPS). Watching and chatting with others while they did their thing I'd pick up lots of good info. Or having someone else watch me and give me tips and point at shit I'm missing. I can watch replays but it doesn't click with me.

lol sorry about that hon game the other day. I was so embarrassed to have picked the healer, and I didn't even know it. I just thought oh that icon looks familiar. I thought I picked an agi hero and when we loaded up I was looking at the recommended items and I didn't know what there were so I just ran off to go lane...

then the team is, yelling at me for not buying anything and saying heal me heal me and I'm thinking WTF?

So many gameplay patches with DoW2. Everytime I go back to play it I have to relearn Nids.

I'll play some DoW2 with you geedeck in between sc2 games

Interesting, I love this game, loot in a rts is the greatest thing ever introduced.

I have been re playing DOW2 with SC2 they are both master pieces.

Still loot always seems to pluck my heart strings.
