THQ Prepping New, 'Less Simmy' WWE Title in Place of Localized Smackdown vs. Raw Online

THQ has added a fourth title to its stable of upcoming WWE-branded wrestling games for release within the next year, CVG reports.

Rather than release the upcoming free-to-play WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Online in Europe and North America, THQ core games boss Danny Bilson said a new, as-yet-unnamed title would make its say to those markets and feature more casual gameplay than THQ's traditional Smackdown vs. Raw series.

Beyond the Asian-only free-to-play title, THQ is currently developing a new installment in its popular WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Raw series and WWE All Stars. The fourth title, according to Bilson, will be "less simmy" than the traditional WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series and more in line with the accessible play of All Stars.

Bilson says the plan is to grow THQ's wrestling brand through an "alternate SKU every six months," with All Stars and the new, unnamed title launching at a gameplay level that is "easier and less simmy" than the WWE Smackdown vs. Raw franchise.

When asked if WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Online could ever see release outside of the Asian market, Bilson said he doesn't "think" it will happen, but concluded his statement by at least confirming it wouldn't happen "anytime soon."

"We don't want to confuse Smackdown vs. Raw [the current franchise] with that online free-to-play game," he told CVG. WWE All Stars is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP and PS2 in Q1 2011.

Although THQ isn't detailing the newest addition to the WWE lineup yet, we're going to start prepping today by hitting everyone in the office with metal folding chairs.
