Netflix Brings Streaming to Canada this Fall [Update]
We're not announcing that until the service launches, but it's fair to assume that several popular, brand name devices will be capable of streaming from Netflix to TVs at launch -- in addition to the ability to watch instantly on computers -- and that we'll add to the family of devices over time.The Netflix rep also added that because the company will not be offering rentals by mail, there will only be one plan choice available to Canadians. Pricing will be revealed when the service launches this fall. A Microsoft representative told Shacknews the company has "nothing to announce" at this time regarding Netflix coming to Canadian consoles. Adding, "We are always looking for ways to offer cool new services via Xbox Live." [Original Story] California-based DVD rental and on-demand video service provider Netflix has announced it will expand its reach to the Great White North. Netflix Inc. says the plan is to offer a monthly subscription service to Canadians that will include streaming delivery of movies and television episodes to "a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix" as well as PC and Mac-based computers. Netflix notes that Canada becomes its "inaugural international market" and the first time the company will only offer its online service to consumers. Currently, Netflix customers in the United States can rent Blu-ray and DVD media as well as stream select content through a number of devices including the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. The service is expected to launch this fall; however, pricing was not revealed. Interested Canadians can currently sign up to receive future updates via email on the official Netflix Canada website. Shacknews has contacted Netflix and each platform holder for confirmation that streaming will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
