TeamFortress2 Info

The guys at Valvesector have quite the scoop on TeamFortress2. They have some incredibly in depth information on several of the weapons that are currently in the game. Of course the game is in the middle of development so things are surely to change, also this information has a 'concealed source' but the number of people talking about this info made it impossible to ignore. Check it out, but take it with a grain of salt.

The armor in TF2 is based on stopping power and how much you have. The thicker the armor the more you'll stop certain weapons. There are 3 types of armor light medium and heavy. For example a ranger's sub machine gun can penetrate light armor fairly easily so it only absorbs 10%-20%, <snip>
I can however confirm that these screenshots are from TeamFortress2. I imagine a lot has changed since those shots though.

  • I think the idea of true player classes is long overdue. What is needed is a true global encumberance system. Those that think the idea is exclusively for RPG games need to think again.

    1. Weapons, armor, and inventory should be affected by individual item weight and size. SoF started to do something like that with their sized weapon inventory setup. Especially in team-based combat, it ain't a one man show anymore, so you are forced to depend on your teammates to win. Carrying shitloads of ammo, armor and weapons should at least slow your ass way down, if you even can move at all. Once again, SoF does try to utilize some of that feeling with their damaged player=slower player movement system. Raven just didn't go far enough.

    Thanks!

  • yo tomservo,

after playing a bunch of Soldier of Fortune I agree that a dotless sniper rifle might seem cool, but the dot is way too useful to go away.
It allows your teammates to see that you've set up shop in a given area, and good teammates will bait enemies into sniper range so you can take pot shots at them from a distance.
It's also just plain cool to see friendly sniper dots crawling across the terrain, and NOTHING beats having some fools trying to gang up on you, you're back-pedaling spamming in vain as your last points of health slip away, thinking
'If there was only ONE of these guys...'
    - you see a friendly dot roaming the ground and run for it, bringing them into range, and just as they close in on you a red dot appears on the forehead of one of em - BANG! - your friendly neighborhood sniper evens the odds for you
    That shit rules.
Snipers are evil enough as they are having the dot, and I sure as hell don't wanna be the one running into areas they are camping out in without having the dot to give me the heads-up.

  • The 'pyro' is still in, he's just not officially called a 'pyro' anymore. The volumetric flamethrower should be cool.... :)

The spy also sounds wicked. I've read he has the ability to 'cloak' (go invisible/blend into his surroundings) when he stands still for a short period of time. Imagine some sniper setting up shop in front of him unknowingly, and then the garrot gets dropped around his neck. Suhweet.

The only thing that kind of has me concerned is the (apparent) focus on rifle/machine guns as the primary fighting weapons among the majority of the classes. Hope they diversify the weapons a la TFC.

I want this game so badly.

  • i want to have sex with tf2.

this game is the reason i go on living. i don't care how long it takes. valve is no stranger to surpassing the hype. look at half-life. how many people care that is was 1 1/2 years late. it owned everyone (what do you mean, everyone? EEEVVVEEERRRYYYOOONNNEEE!!!). this game will once again send game companies back to the drawing board. and for those of you wanting an updated tf/tfc, you're out of luck. from what i can tell so far, it will be far different. it's looking more and more like tfc combined with counter-strike every day.

    pup (valve's little bitch)
