Realtime Worlds Loses Some Staff, Still Hiring However

Now that Realtime Worlds has released APB, it will transition into "running APB as a 24/7 online live operation, creating new content and services for the future and ensuring the best possible experience for the players," said CEO Gary Dale to Develop.

As a consequence, a small number of the studio's staff will be let go and the team assigned to an unannounced project will be "downscaled". The company maintains that it will still be hiring, though it is likely that most of these positions will be in support of APB.

Yearly retail expansions are currently planned for APB with additional content released via patches and updates for free.

When the PR spent more time hyping their character customization I started to question it. The Matrix online had the same problem. Customization is nice, but it shouldn't be spotlighted as one of the best things. I play games to experience worlds... not spend hours farking around with paper dolls.

So disappointing. I was really hoping for a persistent online GTA, with new areas to explore every month or so.

These guys made the original Crackdown?

Was that a fluke?

I just can't fathom how certain developers can release 1 game that is a true classic, then go on to make a turd.

I'm starting to wonder if these guys was making the sequel that they would have fucked over my baby, Crackdown, just like Ruffian did? On the other side I can't imagine anyone fucking Crackdown 2 over more than Ruffian has. All it does is make me want to play the first again.

This is rather disappointing. It's got as much potential as most MMOs just after post launch but it sounds like they've already considering it a loss. It's more the cutting of staff from their other project that concerns me. Potentially I suppose it could mean they recognize the need for more focus on APB but then I would expect them to maintain staff levels on APB's team.
