TechCrunch is reporting, iPhone music-game developer Tapulous Inc. has been acquired by Disney. Founded in 2008, Tapulous Inc. has quickly emerged as a top-tier mobile developer with its hit series Tap Tap Revenge.

Following the same principle as other music-based games, Tap Tap Revenge scores players as they tap to the rhythm of the song. Its original title was initially free; however, new music tracks were later provided as downloadable content. Newer version of the game are available and range in price from $0.99 to $4.99

As its popularity has skyrocketed, Tapulous Inc. developed a content agreement with Universal Records to feature artists in their own specific Tap Tap titles, including Nirvana, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.

The acquisition of Tapulous comes a week after Disney's Steamboat Ventures were included in a second round of investment collection, totaling $33 million, backing social media startup, Playdom.

Tapulous has only raised $2.8 million from initial investors; however, in December 2009, the company reportedly reached monthly sales of $1 million. Further details on the Disney acquisition are forthcoming.
