Heroes of Newerth Welcomes Beta Players Back This Weekend

All who played Heroes of Newerth during its vast beta period will be able to play again over the weekend, developer S2 games has announced, to see how the Defense of the Ancients-inspired tactical action RPG has progressed since launching in May.

The free weekend will begin on Friday--when S2 will release what it calls "one of our biggest patches to date"--at noon EST then end on Sunday at 11:59pm EST.

Friday's patch will bring changes included a new hero inspired by DotA's pirate hero 'Kunkka,' a desperately-needed "Report A Player" feature, and one new item.

If you fancy playing again this weekend, download the latest client from FileShack in a Windows, Mac or Linux flavour and dust off your beta account.

I really liked this game. I just couldn't hang with everyone constantly being pissed off in games. I'm down with a little rage here and there but every single game someone is screaming about "faggots" or "ur bad" or something. It's like people play the game to be mad and yell at other people, it's on a whole new level in this game. I mean come on, it's just pubs, it's not like you're going to be screwed out of getting your job by losing a HoN pub match.

HoN is a great game once you get a good group of people to play with. The community, although, is half decent gamers, half massive flamers. If you're still starting out, you'll have to get used to quite a bit of unnecessary and very often unjustified noob calling, higher PSR games seem to tone down on the insults, thankfully, but they are not completely immune.
Thankfully, I'm assuming the Report a Player feature is being implemented for just that. It would be a shame to see a well executed and fun game be lost to a potentially horrible community.
Very much looking forward to the Rampage rework and the Gauntlet tweaks as well.
