The art style looks awesome, and the amoury system sounds interesting as well. But I have to ask, will it be fun for adults who like mmo's? I've never played a FF game but the seem geared toward a younger demographic in some ways.

There is also a "benchmark application" you can download and run to see how well your system will run it.

The benchmark is in intro scene from the game, and it's fantastic.

It is going to be pretty fun, but some monsters are still kinda silly, like, FAT DODOS. I hope they do things right this time, several humanoids were weaker than critters like Sheeps.

Sure, hook up with some mature but fun players and you will have a blast. I managed to do this on FFXI and it was by far the more rewarding of the MMO games i've played.

I don't have the time to 'no-life' another MMO though so i'm glad FFXIV is going to let you choose to do solo versions of these 'guildleves' which won't be so time consuming.

Are you joking about FFXI being rewarding? Maybe in terms of giving you a sense of accomplishment, but rewarding?

Nowhere else could you fight a dragon for hours and get a fire crystal (a worthless item that normal enemies drop). Nowhere else would they add a great fight like Vrtra and also allow players to get the same item through desynthing, opening up RMT as a means to get the same reward. Nowhere else would an HNM like Jormungand be added which no one kills because his loot is horrible.

Don't even get me started on Sea bosses lol

You're correct i was referring to the sense of accomplishment, especially 'back in the day' when i played, before they started adding all the easy modes. Not everyone was too bothered by what some people would list as big faults with the game, for me it was more about the community spirit and shared experiences.

I was also lucky enough to be in the position where i could sink unfathomable hours into the game so i got a remarkable amount accomplished during my 14 months of play - more than other players i knew who had been playing for years. I guess if you can't sink that amount of time into the game or don't want to, XIV will hopefully be a nice middle ground for both extremes.

After playing FFXI since the NA release (5+) years total, you come to the realization that there is no other game that punches you in the face harder...on a daily basis. Sure, you can accumulate some very nice gear, but you will grind like no other. I'm not sure how XIV will be, but I'm not expecting much difference when it comes to obtaining rewards.

@Visceral: The FF online community is much older than you would expect because, simply put, teenagers do not have the patience for this game. My shell contained many mid twenty-to 40 year old players. I know most of them will be playing XIV when it comes out.
