Front Mission: Evolved Dev Diary Discusses the Fine Art of Mech Fighting

The latest dev diary for the upcoming third-person action title from Square Enix Front Mission Evolved showcases some of the combat players will engage in when the game launches this fall.We don't want to ruin the surprise for you but the video features some steamy robot-on-robot action. What the dev diary also features are a few of the recently delayed game's developers discussing some of the abilities and customization options available to players in the game. As expected, your options and arsenal will be "robust."

The original front mission games were interesting because it was basically Final Fantasy Tactics with mecha. Sort of like fallout tactics or x-com. I don't know why they have to turn it into a 3rd person shooter. I agree with the other guy, the first thing I thought of was Zone of Enders or Armored Core.

Hmmm....this seems awfully similar to Armored Core, albiet with better graphics. I don't understand why we can't get a first-person mech game that doesn't require a $200 controller, and why the japanese style is the one that dominates the genre. Chromehounds, while being japanese, was a kind of western-feeling mech game that was good until you have to spend the majority of your play time just getting to your freaking target to then spend all your ammunition to kill him. Otherwise, its design and level of detail was awesome.

So, yeah..... we need another mechwarrior. Nuff said

I never understood the reasoning behind Mechs carrying guns. I mean they're freakin' giant robots why arent the guns built into their arms?

Sorry, but nothing can beat Mechwarrior for me. I still remember playing at the Battletech Center in Chicago years ago. I wish they would rebuild that place using current technology.
