I found myself pretty meh about it for the first 20 seconds or so, but it got increasingly impressive. The whole style and a lot of the monster and character designs are way better than standard. Definitely some epic stuff in there.

People need to lay off the immediate reaction of "God of War!" when they see this, at least in terms of a put down. We get it. You can see a popular game in the influence. Those were good games, and worthy of taking some notes from, since all previous 3d Castlevanias were terrible attempts at breaking out of 2d.
What stands out in this game, for me, is not that they probably have found a successful way to use the 3d perspective, finally, but rather that the art direction is very well realized, the world very atmospheric, and that the story, from what they have shown in this trailer, looks to be much more than an afterthought, and may actually be engaging. The production value reeks of Kojima.
I am hoping that this game does for the medieval fantasy vampire setting what Red Dead Redemption did for the wild west genre. But, worst case, if it never moves past God of War, it would still be the 3d Castlevania ever.
