I've owned products from both companies and my experience with 3dfx has always been superior.
My current V3-3000 kicks ass although alot of you guys act like my eyes should bleed because it doesn't do 32-bit color. BFD, my old piece-of-shit TNT card did 32-bit color(like a slideshow) and still sucked ass and wouldn't work right with half the games unless I changed the drivers and then the other half would become unplayable.
My V3 is fast in every game and looks good doing it. The latest drivers are the shit and work awesome with everything, Q3 especially.
This interview pointed out some very basic lies that Nvidia is guilty of. The SDR GeForce is theoretically capable of the same fillrate as the DDR, which we know is bullshit in real world performance.
Nvidia claims monster fillrate for the GTS and yet it is only a minor improvement at best in benchmarks in Q3, not the triple-the-bandwidth claim of Nvidia.
I ain't buying Nvidia's lies ever again.

The V5500 can (IMHO) and should be able to stand on its own without the need to descend into slanging matches, and if 3dfx feel that it can't well that tells you all you need to know about the confidence they have in theiur product.
But for $550-600.. nooo waayy..
Something else everybody arguing about these companies needs to realize... The PR and R&D parts of these companies are separate. The Engineers working for nVidia are not the ones hyping the products, same with 3dfx. It's not like these companies are single entities.
I don't care which company is "mean" to the other one. nVidia consistently puts out better products. I have not and still do not trust 3dfx's products though. And I've bought 4 voodoo2s, so it's not like they never got any of my money. V2 was just the last card of theirs I wanted. Despite memory limitations for real-world performance, I think it's kinda funny that a single GF2 chip has more texel fillrate than a whole V5-6k. (1.6Gtex vs 1.33Gtex... Yeah the GF2 needs like 3x the bandwidth... I know...)
how many people here still play q1?
i still have a voodoo2 installed with my rage128 just to play glq.
glide is cool.
v5-5500 for me.
of course thats just my opinion, so please don't buy one because i want one.
make your own decision.
i will say i am truly glad that 3dfx finally quit the 'nice game' and actuall spoke out against their competition. nvidia, which i have nothing against, shits all over 3dfx on a regular basis, which is not very nice.
there do seem to be a lotta people that like their cards so i guess its a good product. i have never owned because of the whole glide thing.
one more thing i will say, to even out my comment. i hated my voodoo3-3500. i bought it DAY 1 and the drivers were shit and i didnt feel like waiting so i gave it the boot. now i have friends with v3-3000 and they work great. i was just not patient... and the fact that they had announced the nextgen (v4 v5) before i even had my v3-3500 in hand.
anyway, like you people give a shit what i think.

I got a DDR. When the v5 6000 hits the shevles I'll upgrade unless ATI or nVidia pull a rabit out of their collective asses. I doubt it will happen so next up is a 6000.
3dfx's Rampage should be as fast as a Geforce GTS. Can you imagine 4x GTS with the memory bandwidth to support it? Oh ya! X-mas is gonna fook'n rock. Time to morage the SO.
We need bandwidth!

Ouch, but it doesn't change the fact that nVidia > 3dfx. :) Sorry 3dfx, nice try though.
Also Let's get some other benchmarks out there besides Q3... I'm getting sick of that shit... The game is already starting to get tres moldy...

As for the interview.. hearing 3Dfx bite back is a refreshing change. I got some "Allright, we've had enough of this Nvidia bullsh*t!!" vibes running all through it.
Sigh, I want a v5-6000
-> FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! ;)
