  • Actually I'm pretty dissapointed in 3dfx coming out with this BS. If you want to win the graphics debate post the best numbers, period. The GF2 beats the V5500 at the moment in most benchmarks. The V5500 beats the GF2 in most FSAA benchmarks. If I was 3dfx I'd concentrate on that. FSAA compatability?, well I suspect that issue will quickly go away, maybe 3dfx will get FSAA working with Glide , hmm?

The V5500 can (IMHO) and should be able to stand on its own without the need to descend into slanging matches, and if 3dfx feel that it can't well that tells you all you need to know about the confidence they have in theiur product.

  • 43: I've gotten a 214fps timedemo in Quake III before. Of course I had everything off and at low rez... on a dual 550 with a GeForce DDR...

Something else everybody arguing about these companies needs to realize... The PR and R&D parts of these companies are separate. The Engineers working for nVidia are not the ones hyping the products, same with 3dfx. It's not like these companies are single entities.

I don't care which company is "mean" to the other one. nVidia consistently puts out better products. I have not and still do not trust 3dfx's products though. And I've bought 4 voodoo2s, so it's not like they never got any of my money. V2 was just the last card of theirs I wanted. Despite memory limitations for real-world performance, I think it's kinda funny that a single GF2 chip has more texel fillrate than a whole V5-6k. (1.6Gtex vs 1.33Gtex... Yeah the GF2 needs like 3x the bandwidth... I know...)

  • "I remember when they announced the TNT and it was supposed to be 125MHz: it was 90. The TNT2-ultra was supposed to be 175/200MHz, it was 150/183. There were supposed to be 30 T&L titles by last Christmas and there was one. They are trying to fool the consumer into positioning GF2 as this killer shader product, but the reality is that it has no new texture/color combine features as compared to the original GeForce! The GeForce2 GTS is supposed to have 3X the performance of the GeForce and it doesn't come close."

Ouch, but it doesn't change the fact that nVidia > 3dfx. :) Sorry 3dfx, nice try though.
