Portal 2 Confirmed for PlayStation 3; Supports Steam Cloud & Auto-Updates
by Brian Leahy, Jun 15, 2010 1:29pm PDTGabe Newell just shocked everyone by showing up at Sony's E3 2010 press conference to announce Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3.
"When the PlayStation 3 was introduced, I was the one of the platform's biggest critics," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "However, Sony Computer Entertainment has proved that the PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers. As such, we are delighted to announce Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 and believe the Steamworks support included will make it the best console version of the game," Newell said.
Portal 2 will be released for the PlayStation 3 alongside the PC, Mac, and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 will be the only console version to include Steamworks support.

Cloud save backups are something MS should've been doing a while ago. Maybe now this will give them some incentive to get their shit in order.

They're talking about chat integration and cross-platform play, not being able to download new titles or chat outside of games. Sony would never allow the Steam store to bypass the PSN marketplace, that would be insanity.

And for developers, if all they have to do is build network play off Steamworks, they have instant cross-platform support. That's the killer app, not Portal 2 if this is true.
