EA has announced a new version of its classic cops vs. robbers racer Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is in development at Burnout Paradise maestro Criterion Games.

"When the team at Criterion Games got the keys to one of the biggest racing franchises, we wanted to take it back to its roots," said creative director Craig Sullivan at the press conference, with "exotic cars, epic drives, and hot pursuits," and a "full career as both a racer and a cop."

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit will be released for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii on November 16 in North America, hitting Europe on November 18 and 19.

  • Yes. Take it back to its roots. And pay respect to ALL of its roots! This means not breaking pretty much everything that's fun in the multiplayer mode!!!! I totally gave up on NFS after a couple of fails with the multiplayer. Why do they decide that we don't want to race on all the tracks in MP? Why do they make it so you can only choose from a limited range of cars in MP? And when I say multiplayer, let me be clear: I am talking about PC multiplayer over LAN and internet. With private servers. That I can set passwords on. And while I'm at it, let me choose the paint job on my car too. I always loved in the original NFS III: Hot Pursuit that I could chose a day-glo orange car, and my friend would always paint his lime green. And we'd drive the lamborghinis. Good times.
