Turn 10 Studios, the developer behind Microsft's popular Forza Motorsport series, has demonstrated a new racing game that uses the Xbox 360's upcoming Kinect add-on.

Due in 2011, the game will see players holding their hands out an controlling their car with an imaginary steering wheel.

The company promised, "radical new car experiences, experiences that could not be delivered until now," such as being able to walk around a car and hold your hand over its parts to get a more detailed view, or literally climbing into a car and starting it up.

"Welcome to the future of racing," it concluded.

LOL - describes what Turn 10 Studios think people care about! Seriously! Walk around a car? I guess you better have a big living room! Hehe... Holding your hands out to control an imginary steering wheel? You have to be joking... This will be hilarious to see in action

Yea, I'd much rather spend my money on a real steering wheel and pedals than buy Kinect and pretend I had a steering wheel.

Motion control has not yet delivered anything remotely decent and in the majority of cases is a step back from what we have already.

I have a MS steering wheel and it's fun at times but only really works for a few driving games well. It's a pain to pull it out, check batteries, plug it in, strap it down, and put it all away when done. Might be nice to just play some spontaneous races without the wheel. (controller doesn't cut it for me)
I see no reason why Forza can't allow you to use the steering wheel and head tracking together. I sure hope it does.

I don't know... I think a lot of serious car fans would enjoy being able to walk around the cars and look at them like that. I would. Did you see the demo? It was pretty cool. I'm not 100% sold on Kinect.. but that part was cool. Also being able to look around the car and into turns using head tracking... that is very cool as well. But I would prefer doing that with a real steering wheel or controller.. steering by holding up my hands is just weird. That doesn't work for me.

Yeah I suppose the looking at the car feature would be interesting. But I would really like to see these demo's demoed from sitting on a couch. I don't know a lot of people to get up and bend to the ground and move your hands all around to view a car model... Call me crazy, but this will end up being just a big gimmick in turn of "racing" games...

It's definitely a gimmick. I could see it something I might do just after a difficult race and winning my latest new car. Or after saving up for a few hours for the car I want. You buy it... get off the couch and check it out. It's not really a selling point for me... but it would be fairly cool and I'd probalby do that.
