de Blob 2: The Underground Announced

THQ has announced de Blob 2: The Underground, a follow-up to its 2008 Wii title, for the Wii, DS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game introduces co-op and will be released on HD consoles for the first time.

The title will also support 3D, but no specific platform is mentioned for this, but it is assumed that it only refers to the PlayStation 3 version barring an announcement of 3D support for the Xbox 360 at Microsoft's E3 press conference.

The press release details the game's story, features, and gameplay:

Comrade Black is back and so is his war on color. Disguised as Papa Blanc, Comrade Black rigs the city's election in order to win and take control of Prisma City with his brainwashing new cult. That is, until de Blob bounces back in full color-spreading force with his revolution to restore color and life back to the city and its residents.

In the colorful sequel, de Blob will paint his way through the enormous and pollution-filled Prisma City accompanied by a fantastic new interactive soundtrack and an arsenal of new tricks to confound his enemies. Joining de Blob will be a new robot sidekick, named Pinky, who will help him blast enemies, disable traps, and negotiate the challenging levels of Prisma City. The game will also present players with new side quests, which allow players to upgrade de Blob's abilities.

The DS version of the game will take place after the events of the console version, following a different story after Comrade Black is defeated. Television network SyFy will be partnering with THQ to release "de Blob-branded consumer products," though no details are given as to what these might be.

de Blob 2: The Underground is in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS. It is currently scheduled for release in spring 2011.
