[Update - 10:39PM] The name "Kinect" has been confirmed via attendees at Microsoft's Cirque du Soleil show.

[Original Story] Microsoft's entry into motion controllers - the camera-based Project Natal for the Xbox 360 - has been renamed "Kinect" according to a report from USA Today that has subsequently been removed. Kotaku spotted the article before it was taken down and managed to salvage some details.

As for launch games, Kotaku lists "a Star Wars game from Lucasarts, a Disney game, a dance title from MTV [rumored to be developed by Rock Band-makers Harmonix], a pet-training title, a Wii Sports clone called 'Kinect Sports' (which we believe Rare is developing), an adventure sports game and, as expected, the return of Joyride," a racing game that uses Avatars as characters.

Kinect Sports includes "boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis." "Kinectimals" is the pet-training game that will allow players to interact with "20 virtual cats." "Kinect Advenctures" includes "river rafting and an obstacle course", previously seen as tech demos. "Dance Central" is the name of MTV's dancing game, but no details are given.

Chris Faylor and Garnett Lee are at Microsoft's Cirque du Soleil show, which served as the formal introduction of Kinect and will be updating me if anything else is revealed. Expect concrete details tonight or tomorrow morning at Microsoft's E3 2010 press conference.
