I was on the greyhound bus yesterday and I overheard an older gentleman (of about 70) and a middle aged gentleman (of about 40) talking behind me. They started talking about how this generation has it easier and that they played too many games. They were talking about how they would go outside and play when they were kids, but this generation doesn't. I wanted to say something, but I knew it would come out an incoherent mess.
Fast forward to today, I've been an active participant in the Las Vegas sun by riding a bicycle on the road, I did 20 miles yesterday, and about 12 miles today (and 2.5 miles walking). It felt like I was playing a video game. I still didn't have the answer.
I'm watching netflix, Noise with Tim Robbins in it (the girl in that is hot) and I suddenly realize that all of my attention is on this movie. Not on the hotel room, not on shack, not on the glass of captain morgan that I'm sipping. Its all on this movie, and it hits me :
The reason this generation doesn't get out and run around and do crazy shit is because it has a wide variety of universes that it can tap into at will. If I want to find myself in a desert landscape with a ghillie suit on trying to snipe fools, I can (BF:BC2). If I want to find myself flying a fighter, getting shot down and then fighting for dear life with my jetpack and explosives disk (Tribes 2) I can. If I want to express these ideas and not have to wait to assemble a wide audience to do so (the shack) I can. And the best part is, there will never be any consequences. That fighter that blew up, make a new one in 2 seconds. That guy I sniped, he'll just respawn in 20. This post is the one with the most consequences actually, I'll get judged by my peers.
reality is no more real to me than any of these other realities. Its just a matter of the amount of information I can get. With time that amount of information will reach a point where they'll be indistinguishable, and then, who knows, maybe I'll be a walking penis in your way as you walk to the black sun snow crash.
TLDR : Computers allow me to instantly plug in to any other universe and I love it
