Weekend Movie Review
by Steve Gibson, May 07, 2000 8:23pm PDTOnly checked out one movie this weekend (tied at home doing benchmarks), but it was a doozie. Saw Gladiator. Gotta say it was some quality stuff. The movie was well over 2hrs but at no point did I feel it was drawing on.. I was enthralled the entire time. The was a lack of a hottie factor but they made up for it with lots of violence/blood and guts. You're just silly (or under 17) if you dont see this one. Oh yeah, as for that older movie thread... I didnt quite expect you guys to bust out with 500 comments. I'm not sorting through that one. Sorry :)

Same thing applies to Gladiator. Classic? Classic piece of trash.
eat it.

As far as it being compared to "Braveheart"...they are both about equal in my book. "Gladiator" probably just a tad better. I felt Braveheart was a tad drawn out.
I read an article the other day that there was over an hour worth of footage cut from "Gladiator." It's suppose to be added into the DVD version. I'm curious as to what exactly was cut from the movie.
Too bad Ridley Scott wasn't at Columbine with a couple camera crews. It'd be a box office smash!
THAT LOOKS GREAT!!!
one of the best in my mind already

1. Pink Floyd The Wall
2. Taxi Driver
3. A Clockwork Orange
All new movies suck! I hate Hollywood! I'm not going to see or rent 1 single movie this year. Passive entertainment is dead. No books, no movies, no bullshit.
hahahahahhahahahah
WAH.
Gladiator owned.
I laughed my ass of watching the original (crying in the movie theatre during the dinner scenes) and I just found out that Janet Jackson is in this sequel.
* W O O O O O O D *
I'll be there.

Fight scenes so complex and horribly edited that you're lucky to know who is dying and when. Special effects, while sometimes adequate, are often plain shitty (flocks of birds, dirt flying). Entirely generic and predictable plot points and characters. Lengthy and over-dramatic "talky" scenes which draw the movie to the 2.5 hour mark for no particular reason. I liked Alien and Blade Runner because they had a lot of new stuff to offer. Gladiator offers a cool main character and some fairly intense fighting scenarious, but nothing else.
Gladiator sucks.
P.S. Anyone notice that after the gladiators had their final bloody uprising against the Roman guards, they manage to all show up in the final arena without a scratch on their bodies??? I'm sure the Roman guards were like "okay show's over people, go back to your cells now." Whatever.

from the trailer, the tiger scene... the tiger just sticks out, dunno how to explain it... it just has that jumanji effect :)

and Gladiator was very good...
Braveheart was [much] better though (not taking anything away from gladiator).
Not too much really catches my eye this summer. MI:2 looks good. Oh, and I want to see Dinosaur (disney cg animated movie). Thats about it that I know of...

it all seemed sorta like a dream so the movie was sorta cool :)
i can imagine though if i were to watch it during the day or something and was expecting a good movie, i'd hate it :)
what are some of the more watchable movies? and i don't mean just plain cool movies... matrix was awesome when i first saw it but after seeing it over and over again, it seems BORING and drags on a lot :) plus the effects don't seem so appealing anymore. (the minigun bullet rain is still woodworthy though :)
pulp fiction is a fun movie to watch over and over again (if just for the cool lines), but i have to wonder how much longer it will be until that movie gets boring as well...
braveheart... i couldn't stay awake the first time i saw it :) heck i don't think i've ever seen the movie in one sitting :)
armageddon (sp?) gee this movie REALLY sucks ass the second time you watch it hehe.
