EA Announces 'NHL Slapshot' for Wii, Starring Gretzky

1
Developer and publisher Electronic Arts today announced NHL Slapshot, "their first ever NHL hockey title for the Wii" which apparently features a "revolutionary" hockey stick controller.

EA boasts that the controller, which has yet to be revealed, "allows players to shoot, pass and body check just like the pros."

Little is known of NHL Slapshot other than that players will be able to "play from the Pee Wee's to the Pros" and that Wayne Gretzky will be a playable character. The Great One will also appear on the box art, leading EA to spend far more time explaining his greatness than explaining what the game actually offers.

"Making our games as close to the real thing has always been our focus," said EA Sports creative director David Littman. "Now we are giving players an actual plastic hockey stick that the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers plug into. Players can then use the new NHL Slapshot Hockey Stick to do all the moves in the game."

Developed by NHL 10 dev EA Canada, NHL Slapshot is heading to Wii in September.
