10
Defense Grid developer Hidden Path has announced an "expansion" titled 'Resurgence' for its PC and Xbox 360 tower defense, to be released in June as four 99¢ map packs.

Each 99¢ (80 Microsoft Points) pack contains two "highly polished and balanced" new levels with a campaign mode, four challenge modes and new achievements. The first pack will be released on June 2, with the other three following weekly on Wednesdays.

If you haven't already given Defense Grid a whirl, you can nab the 237MB PC demo from FileShack or download the Xbox 360 demo from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Level descriptions and the complete Resurgence release schedule follow below.

Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 1 - June 2, 2010
Service Interruption and Height of Confusion
Two new challenging Defense Grid environments are the first two released in the Resurgence series. An obstructed road to the core housing gives the aliens a significant advantage in Service Interruption. Choose your towers wisely! Height of Confusion has a wide open surface, making for endless possibilities! Build anywhere you want in your defense of the power cores!

Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 2 - June 9, 2010
Risk Exposure and Roundabout
Don't miss out on the next two Resurgence maps. Risk Exposure will allow you to discover your ability to defend two independent power core housings! Limited build spaces will test your skills as you divide your resources to discover optimal tower placement. On Roundabout, you will be faced with numerous possibilities for pathing and a variety of elevation changes. This one will have you going in circles to contain the alien menace!

Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 3 - June 16, 2010
Urban Planning and Tactical Diversion
It's the third of four great map packs in the Resurgence series. Urban Planning is a dense environment with restrictive build spaces, forcing difficult decisions against continuously attacking hordes. In Tactical Diversion, survey the small, snow covered platform and consider numerous possibilities. But be prepared for the aerial assault!

Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 4 - June 23, 2010
Kill Zone and Outflow
The final installment of the Resurgence series includes two more environments sure to challenge your tactical planning. In Kill Zone, will you construct your defenses near the spiral road in, the spiral road out, or the open platform in the middle? Perhaps all three! But you'll need to be on your toes to deter the invaders. Overflow has numerous connected platforms that will provide countless options to turn back the enemies. Will you be able to keep the cores safe?

I didn't even mention them because I couldn't see why anyone would care. Yes, there are new achievements. I'll add that for people I could never understand.

Where have you been the past 2 years? You really think people don't care about achievements? C'mon it's the driving force of why people play games. At least that's what it seems like these days with every game including a set of achievements to give the player a sense of accomplishing something special.

          I'm with Alice for once.

It's silly to play for "achievements" for its own sake, like it means something. It doesn't.

i never played defense grid for achievements, but i DID like the "medals" for each of the maps, mainly as a nice benchmark against which to measure my performance... replaying maps until i got gold on each of them was a lot of fun and in some cases a major challenge (it seems the gold targets are a little inconsistent in terms of difficulty)... i dont much care if anyone else ever knows that i got gold on everything (which seems to be what most achievement-whores care about) but i appreciate having a bar set to shoot for. these kinds of achievements/targets remind me of trying to get that extra ball at N points on a pinball machine, or the high score tables on arcade machines...

i definitely agree that the other class of achievements that seem common, the "stupid busywork" kind, are senseless and not worth considering... but, people seem to like them i guess...

Achivemets are like the arcade Frogger scoreboard that doesn't need a car battery to take across the street.
