This is the problem I have with EA's Free to play microtransaction games, and why I have never spent any money in any of them. Your purchases are temporary. In Need For Speed, you RENT cars, in Tiger Woods, you RENT clubs and/or gear for a certain number of rounds, in Battlefield Heroes you RENT guns or clothes for a week or month (I think they have added a permanent option to some items in BFH). If I could pay $10 and get a few cars that I like permanently, or a set of golf clubs that I like, permanently, I would actually consider spending some money in their game, but I'm not interested in renting items from them.

"We have expanded Need for Speed's classic adrenaline fueled racing with an all-new power up system and deep RPG style progression to create a truly massive, socially-connected white-knuckle Need for Speed experience," he added.
Sounds like it's going to be arcadey. Was MCO really too complex for people? I loved how deep the car customization was, and the races were fun (if a bit flawed).
I hope the RPG part is like MCO. I think it had items (car parts) that were level locked, but that's about it. There were no player attributes, just car stats, depending on what you used in your car. This new one will probably be something stupid like 'you have gained a level, you can now shift into 5th gear!'.
Do they have 100's of people racing at the same time in the same place?
Is the world they are racing in a persist world that everyone joins?
Just because there are massive amounts of people playing a game online, doesn't make it an MMO.
