Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, May 21, 2010 5:00am PDTGood morning, class. Your task today is to study the history of PC sound devices as told by The Secret of Monkey Island. Complete your work to a satisfactory standard and I won't tell Dr. Breckon what an awful bunch of slackers you've been during his sabbatical.

After a few posts trying to figure out wtf is wrong with my computer, I decided to open all the windows and put a big fuckin box-fan next to my open case last night and game for a while. I was able to play for about 2 hours with zero lockups--versus the lockups ever ~10 minutes I was getting before.
Now, I have been monitoring temps quite closely in my computer and my graphics card is never above ~60C when it locks--and that card is rated to 100C. I also have my GPU fan kicking at about 80% while I game (auto mode doesn't ever turn it above 30% that I have seen) so I'm fairly certain it is not my GPU overheating.. but obviously SOMETHING is, right? I'm ordering a new CPU heatsink (the fan on mine died a while ago, but I have a different one rigged to do the work) and going to move everything into a bigger, airier case.. but I wouldn't mind spending a couple hundred to get this to be a stable, decent machine, and not somehting that could be posted on "thereifixedit.com" or whatever.
Any ideas as to what could be overheating, and how I can make it better?
Side note, I contacted Mushkin and they are going to replace my bad RAM too while I'm at it. WOO!
