Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, May 21, 2010 5:00am PDTGood morning, class. Your task today is to study the history of PC sound devices as told by The Secret of Monkey Island. Complete your work to a satisfactory standard and I won't tell Dr. Breckon what an awful bunch of slackers you've been during his sabbatical.

This got me curious about Microsoft's in-game advertising division.
This led me to research it a bit and write a story for CNBC - http://bit.ly/aZca20
The short story? You're gonna see a lot more ads in games over the coming years.

- The destructability must be the same as the rest of the game. If every building and tree in the game is destructable, but the Verizon billboard is impervious to damage because some marketer didn't like the idea, then that's a no go.
- The ads must look like they fit in with the rest of the world. Ie proper time period, not having a different resolution or art style than the rest of the game, etc.
- Interaction with the ad or product placement should not be a required part of the game, ie: "Your health is low. to recharge your energy levels you must go buy a McDonalds Angus Deluxe, with 1/3lb of pure angus beef, crisp lettuce, and tangy mayo"
