Medieval HL2 Mod 'Age of Chivalry' Going Commercial
by Alice O'Connor, May 20, 2010 5:40am PDTThe team behind the Half-Life 2 mod Age of Chivalry has announced a commercial version of the multiplayer first-person medieval melee combat mod, built upon Unreal Engine 3.
Chivalry: Battle for Agatha promises "a bigger, better, graphically enhanced game" with support for up to forty-eight players as well as the bullet points of "More weapons. A more fluid movement system. Character customization."
Developer Team Chivalry is building the game upon Epic's Unreal Development Kit, which offers the Unreal Engine 3 and its toolset free for non-commercial use but also has friendly commercial licensing rates. Epic charges a $99 licensing fee up front for commercial releases then a 25% royalty rate on all revenue beyond the first $5,000.
The price, release date and platforms for Chivalry: Battle for Agatha have yet to be confirmed, though considering Team Chivalry's heritage a PC release seems inevitable.

I hope they also move to a respawn system ala Lead and Gold instead of spawning players all the way back at the original spawn point and then having them stream towards the enemy in a single file line.
