Dragon Quest IX will finally be released in the USA exactly one year after the DS RPG came out in Japan, North American publisher Nintendo announced today, on July 11.

The latest in the long-running JRPG series features co-op play via local wireless for up to four players. Players craving any human contact can also set their game to 'Tag Mode' before slipping it into their satchel and venturing into the scary wide world, automatically transmitting greetings, treasure maps and character information to others in Tag Mode.

Dragon Quest IX sold 4.26 million copies in Japan alone between between July 2009 and the end of March 2010, according to its Japanese publisher Square Enix.

It was the tenth game to get 40/40 in Famitsu. (Wikipedia)

And it's DQ... how can it not be good? Pokemon stole all its gameplay elements for a reason.

I found DQ8 to be essentially the same game as Dragon Warrior on the NES, but I guess it'll be a solid RPG. I'm just a little tired of the I take a turn, you take a turn, my teammate takes a turn, you take another turn style of RPG combat.

Same here. It's one of the only RPG's where I don't mind the random battles, because they're usually quick and give you tons of cash.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with old school turn based fighting engines. I have great memories of FF3 (us) building up my team to be able to beat the end boss in 1 or 2 rounds.

I've heard mixed things. But then, it was the same way with FFXIII, which I loved.

I'm more excited about DQ6 in English though.
