World of Warcraft Auction House Hits Web, iPhone With Optional Subscription

WoW, I am glad I quit playing WoW, or this little app could have wreaked serious havoc on my ability to function in daily life. I enjoyed the AH more than any other part of the game.

There is no limit to what they can come up with when a very large chunk of their player base is addicted. I'm wondering if your average person actually calculates their yearly expenses on WoW. You've got the game subscription fees, name change fees, realm transfer fees, character transfer fees, virtual items sold and now an internet port to their auction house system for a 3$ monthly fee.

I think there is something devious planned here.

If you buy and sell virtual goods for fun, you would log into the game and play right? If you play the auction house and spend most of your time buying and selling just because you enjoy collecting hundreds of thousands of virtual currency; then you'd obviously have to buy virtual items with that virtual currency or else whats the point? These virtual items would be consumed by the consumer.

Why do I get the feeling that Blizzard is going to massively increase the amount of Bind on Equip items next expansion? This would feed the addiction of those who spend most of their day on the virtual auction house at work or on their iphones. People who don't have time to raid or grind for epics, will log in to the auction house on their mobile devices or at work to make virtual money in order to keep up with the tier based item progression system.

If you were a Blizzard CEO you would want something to justify another house/car/yacht/mistress too.

Skip the point that people paying a subscription are being asked to pay a little more for a new feature. Consider that we finally have a working example of extending the gaming experience outside of the game and onto another platform. Specifically where you can affect the game. The earlier armory app was just a viewer; as is the free version here. Assuming the adoption rate is interesting enough this could lead to other cross-platform interactions outside of an established game world. Now that could be interesting.

This is so unbelievably tacky. I could understand charging for the app itself, but a *subscription* to an app? Give me a break.

IT was working for a split second. I got a page but it was still closed off. I refreshed and all I get is a blue page with a search ability.

$3/month? Lame, people are already paying a monthly subscription to pay the game, another charge is just ridiculous.

Now that is really awesome, too bad I don't play it anymore right now. Will pick it up again when the expansion hits.
