Mafia 2 Gets PhysX, 3D Vision Support
by Chris Faylor, May 18, 2010 1:00pm PDTAll three versions of Mafia II--PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360--will use NVIDIA's PhysX physics technology, publisher 2K Games announced today, with the PC version getting a "thorough integration" of PhysX plus some APEX clothing and particle effects.
In addition, Mafia II PC will support NVIDIA's 3D Vision headset for stereoscopic 3D visuals when the game hits August 24 in North America and August 27 elsewhere.
Thankfully, 2K Games also provided an explanation of what the technology brings:
The integration of PhysX and NVIDIA APEX technology, including the APEX Clothing and Particle modules, enable the city and personalities of Empire Bay to truly come alive on Windows PC. The NVIDIA APEX Clothing module allows for more dynamic movement in clothing, making in-game characters even more realistic and reactive to environmental conditions. With the implementation of NVIDIA APEX Particles, players are engulfed in lifelike explosions that are bigger and brighter, including weapon fragments, in-game debris and destructible environments that are amplified in both quantity and realism through the integration of APEX Particles. For example, a pistol fired into a glass pane will emit hundreds of glass shards; a shotgun blasted through a wooden landing will splinter the wood; and a Tommy Gun will chip into a brick or stone wall to methodically fracture and break it into pieces.

I love me some Mafia 2. Cant wait for this game!
PS: I also got the 3D Vision kit right after the PAX and after trying, there's no going back to 2D gaming for me (at least with exception of some games), but it is really worth the investment :)

I will be mine my precious my precious... the Physx holds such awesome power I can not resist it...
This game is gona give Red Dead Redemption a run for its money.
It reminds me of experimenting with the numbers of particles in explosions in UnrealEd; too many of the same size and color made the effect look unrealistic and amateur.
While I love that they put this ability into the game, I hope there's a bit more tweaking to make it worthwhile.
