The confirmation came about after Kotaku was provided with promotional GameStop boxart for the game, with Ubisoft later saying that it "confirms the authenticity of this image and will provide more information next week." A new entry only a year after the previous game? I know publishers love making money and all, and I love playing (most) of their games, but I believe a gap of at least two years should exist between entries in any series. I feel it gives dev teams more time to be creative with what they're going to do next, and it also keeps me, the consumer, from getting burnt out on their worlds.

It's almost the same thing they did with Splinter Cell.
SC 1 came out in Nov 2002.
SC 2 : Pandora Tomorrow came out just over a year later March 2004 (1 year, 4 months)
The next 2 came out in consecutive years
SC 3: Chaos Theory came out in 2005
SC 4: Double Agent came out in 2006
But they also had different teams working on them.
The original SC 1 team did SC 1, took a break, and then started work on SC 3 while another team did SC 2.

They were doing that leap frog stuff. Different development teams did those games with the exception of Double Agent, which both of them worked on.
I'm gonna bet that this was an expansion or episode that they scaled up. It's a continuation of Ezio's story so it's not like they gotta start from scratch. They'll probably reuse a lot of assets.
