New Standard Wii Package Includes MotionPlus, Wii Sports Resort, Available in Black

The Nintendo Wii will be available in black from May 9, Nintendo has announced, when it updates the $199 standard bundle to include Wii Sports Resort and the MotionPlus peripheral in addition to Wii Sports and a controller, as had been rumoured.

"By including even more of our top-quality hardware and software in the basic Wii system package, we're extending that commitment to entertainment and value," said Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime. "Now more than ever, consumers can count on Nintendo to deliver inclusive fun and advanced motion controls at a mass-market price."

The May 5 release date applies only to the USA. Nintendo has yet to reveal when it will hit elsewhere, though according to the earlier rumours it'll invade Canada on May 23.

I can not believe that motion plus wasn't handed out from now on the second it was finished, in the box as default.
What the fuck were they thinking?

All they had to do was wiisports resort with motion plus, add motion plus to the default box and ship motion plus on their website for say 15$ US for people and then developers could rely on it.
Now it's going to be one of those half assed things developers can't be sure to target for or not.
    Dumb, dumb, dumb.

It was always going to be that way, I think it'll be integrated into the controller from the get go on the Wii 2 or whatever they call it. And only then will we really see the benefit coming through.

Yeah no kidding. They should have redesigned the Wiimote to include it standard.

Nah, that'll come with the next console, why make less money when you can make more?

Honestly the price doesn't bother me so much. If they had to raise the regular wii remote price to account for the new built in motion plus (according to my plan) then fine, I would have been ok. Instead, they're fragmenting the consumer and developer base.
