Rumor: Six Player, 2D Castlevania Game for XBLA

Joystiq is reporting that its source has confirmed that "Harmony of Despair", which recently appeared in European trademark documents, is a Castlevania game.

Furthermore, the game is supposedly a six-player, 2D co-op and versus game set for a downloadble Xbox Live Arcade release. Not much is known about the specific gameplay elements or technology at this point, but we'll keep an eye on this title.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is currently assisting with the development of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

6 player 2D coop / versus sounds like it could be an abortion which rivals that Wii Castlevania fighting game.

Why don't they just do a straight, epic 2D Castlevania for XBLA & PSN? Something to rival SotN.

    I have a DS along with all three DS castlevanias plus all three GBA ones. None of them live up to SotN but a few are really good in their own right. I'd kill for an epic, 2D full fledged console entry, with music as good as the psx/ps2 games and all that.
